After consulting with local law enforcement and the National Weather Service, Duke officials have decided to extend the severe weather and emergency conditions policy for Duke University and Duke University Health System until 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15. Classes held before 5 p.m. Monday will be canceled. Updates on the status of Duke clinics will be posted on the PDC website.
All staff in “Essential Service” positions should report to work or remain at work. Gates on parking garages will be open Monday for use by staff in “Essential Service” positions. All employees “Delayed Service” positions should not report to work or remain at work when the policy is in effect to allow for crews to clear parking lots and roads more effectively.
The National Weather Service has extended the Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. Monday for Durham and the surrounding area. Roads, parking lots and walkways remain icy, and temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until the afternoon. Numerous accidents have been reported on area roads, and local law enforcement officials have advised individuals to avoid travel due to icy conditions.
