Due to low temperatures overnight and the potential for black ice and refreezing, Duke University and Duke University Health System will activate the Severe Weather and Emergency Conditions policy from 7 – 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Provost has announced that classes starting prior to 11 a.m. Wednesday will be canceled as well. Duke Medicine Clinics will operate at normal hours.
All staff members in Essential Service positions should report to or remain at work for their normal shift Wednesday. All other staff members should report to work for their normal shift once the policy expires at 10 a.m.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by late morning Wednesday. Crews will be out early treating roads, walkways and parking lots around campus. Duke community members should continue to use priority snow/ice clearing routes to travel to and from campus buildings during winter weather since normal routes may not be cleared or treated initially. Any problem areas should be reported to Facilities (University) or Engineering & Operations (Medical Center).
