Due to the significant icing that occurred overnight, the below-freezing temperatures and the limited amount of time for crews to clear the campus, the Severe Weather and Emergency Conditions policy for Duke University and Duke University Health System will be extended through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, and classes will be canceled for the remainder of the day.
For Duke Medicine, specialty clinics will open as scheduled (10 a.m.), and Primary Care/Urgent Care clinics will open as weather permits. Patients are asked to contact their clinic of care to determine its status.
Crews have worked diligently overnight and this morning to clear the campus roads, parking lots and walkways. Priority lots have been cleared and sand has been spread, but slick spots remain due to the low temperatures. Staff in Essential Service positions should use extreme caution when traveling around campus and should review the priority clearing map for appropriate roads, walkways and garages. All staff in Delayed Service positions should not report to work until after the severe weather policy expires.
Bus service has been suspended until road conditions improve. Updates on the current status of bus routes, parking lots, dining facilities and stores can be found on the DukeALERT website under Campus Updates.
Officials will continue to monitor the weather conditions throughout the day. Additional communications will be made as conditions warrant.
