The Severe Weather and Emergency Conditions policy for Duke University and Duke University Health System has been extended until 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, and the Provost has also canceled classes starting before 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Patient appointments in Duke Clinics will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Individual patients with appointments scheduled before 10 a.m. will be contacted by phone. Clinic staff should report to work prior to clinic opening based on standard procedures.
Gates on parking lots and garages were opened at 4 p.m. today and will remain open through the severe weather period tomorrow to provide safe access during winter weather for staff in Essential Service positions. Once precipitation ends tomorrow morning, crews will begin clearing snow and ice from the roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and elevated surfaces based on the priority clearing map. Members of the Duke Community should review the priority clearing map to determine the preferred paths of travel during severe weather, which may differ from normal routines. Even after clearing, slippery spots may exist, so members of the Duke community are encouraged to use extreme caution traveling to and around campus today and tomorrow.
Officials will continue to monitor the weather conditions throughout the night and following morning. Additional communications will be made as conditions warrant. Updates, including the current status of roads, parking lots, busing routes, dining facilities and Duke stores, will be posted on the DukeALERT emergency website.
