All roads on and around campus are extremely slick and dangerous. Many areas that were cleared but wet yesterday have frozen overnight. The roads and parking lots are covered with black ice and visible ice.

As the temperature rises later this morning and into the afternoon, there should be significant melting.

City of Durham crews continued to salt, sand and scrape the roads throughout the night.

All employees in “Delayed Service” positions should not report to work or remain at work to allow crews to clear and treat parking lots and roads more effectively.

Gates on parking garages will be open for use by staff in “Essential Service” positions. All community members are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling to and around campus and should only use priority roads, walkways and parking lots or garages during winter weather to reduce the potential for accidents and injuries.
